PC Build question

Post by Yuriksha »

I know a few of our Swords should know a bit more than I do about building new computers, especially when it comes to graphics cards and so on. I have the following question:

I have a 600W power supply with two +12V rails rated at 18.0 amp each. My old GPU used two six-pin PCIe connectors. The new card needs one 8-pin connector. It's a GTX 1660 Super, which seems to have a max draw of 120-125W, which I figure is 10 or no more than 11 amps.

Will a single 6-pin connector using an 8-pin adapter be able to supply the needed power, or could it be too much for those wires?

What model psu? 12v@ 16a is 216w so should be np and iirc the extra 2 are just ground wires anywho.

Thermaltake PurePower 600 - ATX 12V 2.2 - P/N W0129RU.

EDIT: Yeah, I'd found out they were ground wires and heard they essentially tell the PSU it's OK to send as much as 150W down a line which normally does 75W. Hence there was some disagreement in places that I looked, so I figured I'd ask around.

Finally got the adapter Saturday. It appears to be enough, the card works well.

Doesn't stop massive framerate drops when making sudden turns, especially in Agartha. That's probably bottlenecking from low mainboard RAM.

Also transplanted into a new case with bigger fans and better internal arrangement. It's quieter and I think it's a good improvement.

Nice if any issues its most likely PhysX and check your C++ installs. TSW/SWL same Awesomium
platform. I just uninstall all c++ (rememeber what's in there) then clean with Privazer then reinstall.
PhysX-9.19.0218
drivers-442.50
I use the 2012 and 2015/2017/2019 (allinone)
