Nine Swords

So did anyone else receive a rather creepy email from Bioware this morning telling them they've been chosen? It's an ARG for a game that looks very similar to The Secret World.

I haven't been chosen. And shudder at the thought of Bioware making something like that. After all, the main question that raises itself with their games is "Will there be romance?" and "Do you choose the green, blue or red ending?"

Yup, I got chosen but thanks to work's web access restrictions I only got to watch the video (which was enough to make me want to play whatever it is)

I got the same email. They have only shown enough to peak my interest but not enough to really give me a good understanding of what the game actually is lol. Hopefully they will give out more information on the school soon.

Gamescom on the 13th is the big announcement day. The three teaser videos so far are highly intriguing, so far we think it's either a TSW esque MMO, or a Marvel tie in (gifted young people a la Xavier's institute).

It looks like X-Men meets X-Files, which I consider to be a promising thing. Even better would be if it's a single-player game where player choice has a big impact on the game world. I assume that it will have some kind of online functionality or else Failbetter wouldn't be involved, but I really hope it's not another MMO. Our North American contingent only just got its raid team back up to full strength.

Doesn't seem to be the Failbetter/Bioware tie-in. Their forums seem to be discounting that, and given Bioware stated they are developing but not at their Canadian locations, that implies it's at Bioware Austin, home of SW:TOR. Who knows, have to wait for Games Con: Koln I assume.

So. This Shadow Realms game will have a single-player component in which players can enjoy the choice-based storytelling of other BioWare RPGs, but the main attraction is the 4 vs 1 multiplayer dungeon crawl. We may lose a few people when this thing launches but it's a long way off.

I'll keep an eye on it, some interesting tech ideas and game play concepts, but it looks very very busy, pretty much click stuff till it is dead. How's that going to be that different to the original Diablo, click, click, clickty click. Any thinking required, didn't seem that way.
