OK. It's time for Hint #1: The columns are indicative of Roman architecture. The spread of the Roman Empire reached from Norther Europe to the Middle-East, From England through Northern Africa, and toward Mesopotamia.

Nope. That's not it.

Hint #2: These ruins are remarkably intact for being buried for centuries. A fallen king once pointed out, "Sub maximus arbor ille flevit dixit inferius sicut superius" (Under grand tree he wept lower as above.)
