There is so much jargon in SWL, and lots of abbreviations - so we have collected some of it together for you so you can also talk like a SWL Pro *winks*

 

0-9 

  • 9S: Nine Swords/Nine-Swords. Legendary cabal.

  • Adds: Additional enemies or mobs that help the main boss.
  • AFK: Away from keyboard.
  • Aggro: Shorthand for a monster's "aggression" and is used to describe the threat level of a party member.
  • AH: Auction House, or any ingame area specified for buying and selling items.
  • Alt: A player's alternate character, usually a secondary character as opposed to a main.
  • AP: Ability Points; one of the currencies you use to level your character in The Secret World
  • AA: Anima allocation. To adjust your damage survivability or healing level. Example A DPS that does very high damage might have to adjust AA so that he does not take aggro from the tank.
  • AS: Anima Suffusion. 

 

B

  • Bio / Bio Break: Biological break, bathroom break.
  • BRB / BBL / BBIAB: Be Right Back / Be Back Later / Be Back In A Bit.
  • BRT: Be Right There.
  • Buff: A beneficial effect, or the act of giving yourself or an ally a beneficial effect.
  • Bombs: Popular name for a type of add that explodes and kill you in the dungeon Polaris.
  • Boss: The main enemies in a dungeon. Specifically, in the dungeon Ankh the Tank might ask you “who wants to take Boss?” He then refers to one ranged DPS taking the big enemy Melothat walking slowly toward you on bridge.
  • BM: Blue Mountain.
  • BF: Besieged Farmlands.
  • Bot: robot used in Discord that can be helpful in E10 - E17 raids.

 

  • Cabal Pride: Awesome yearly recruitment event hosted by Nine Swords.
  • Cache: Loot boxes. Need to be opened with Cache Keys. 
  • Cleanse: Any ability which removes debuffs from players. You have personal cleanse and group cleanse skills. Useful group cleanse is Clean slate from pistol, Regeneration from fist, cleanup from shotgun and communion from blood magic. Purification drone model UW-0 also cleanse group but is not useful if quick cleanse is needed for entire group.
  • Cooldown/CD: The amount of time between using an ability and time it's ready to use again.
  • Crit: Critical Hit, or hit that deals an additional amount of damage.
  • CS: Clean Slate. Pistol group cleanse ability
  • CotSG: City of the Sun God.
  • CF: Carpathian Fangs.

 

  • DC or d/c: Disconnected.
  • DoT: Damage over Time, any attack that adds a debuff to the target which deals a certain amount of damage to that target over a certain amount of time.
  • DPS: Damage Per Second, the amount of damage dealt to a target per second. ALSO short for damage dealer or the person tasked to do damage.
  • Drone: Several drones in game but almost always referred to drone is purification drone model UW-0. This is for cleanse and DPS is often asked to use it to remove detrimental effects such as “rot iron” that will kill if not removed. Slowly cleanse people on by one.
  • Discord: Software used for voice and text chat. Often used in NYR E10
  • Dung: Dungeon

 

  • E1-E17: Elite level of Dungeon level
  • Emote: A gesture or action performed by a player which expresses emotion.
  • Endgame: Content available to characters once they reach the level capacity.
  • Exp: Experience / Experience Points.
  • Expose: Sometimes a dps is asked to bring expose for a dung. This is to help overall dps. Expose gives group 10% more dps on enemy. Expose skills are notable examples; Kill blind and trick shot pistol skills. Bombardment from shotgun and reality fracture or anomaly skill from a chaos focus. Berserk from Fist weapon, Rampage from hammer and rushing river with blade.

 

  • Farming: Continuously engaging a specific area or (type of) creature for loot or experience.
  • FC: Funcom

 

  • GCD: Global Cooldown.
  • Gear: Any item of which a player can equip.
  • GF,GG,GJ: "Good Fight. Good Game , Good Job”
  • GL: Guild Leader or "Good Luck."
  • GM: Game Master, Ingame support, or Guild Master.
  • Grind: To gain experience or specific item through farming mobs.
  • GtG / G2G: "Good to Go", or "Got To Go."
  • GUI: Graphical User Interface.

 

H

  • HoT: Heal over Time.
  • HP: Hit Points / Health Points.
  • HTC: Happy Tentacle Radio. Secret World Legends Radio Station.

 

  • IMO / IMHO: In My Opinion / In My Honest Opinion.
  • Inc: Incoming, approaching mobs.
  • IP: Item Power
  • IRL: In Real Life. Irl aggro: Mad wife/girlfriend or kids
  • Interrupt: If tank ask someone to interrupt you can use abilities or gadgets to interrupt a boss cast. Useful Examples is the Mistress's Bashosen or Electromagnetic Attractor gadget

 

  • KD: Kaidan.
  • Kite: To maintain a specific distance from an enemy by maintaining aggro while running around, similar to a kite and string.
  • KK: "Okay", or "I understand."
  • KM: Kingsmouth.

 

  • LFG: "Looking for group."
  • LFM: "Looking for more."
  • Loot: Items that can be acquired from a dead enemy.
  • LOS: Line of Sight.
  • Lurker: Boss in New York raid.

 

  • Main: Somebody's first or most advanced character, toon, or avatar.
  • Mob: An NPC or creature that is usually attackable.
  • MT: Mistell, sending a message to the wrong person. Or short for Machine Tyrant boss from hell raised dungeon
  • Mumble: Chat program
  • MU: Meet Up

 

  • Nerf: When an ability or player class is reduced in some way.
  • Noob / Nub: Term used that usually refers to new or bad players.
  • NP: "No problem."
  • NPC: Non-Player Character.
  • Nvm: Never mind.
  • NYR: New York raid. Fight against lurker in Manhattan exclusion zone.

 

  • OD: Occult Defence Scenario
  • OMG: "Oh my god."
  • OMW: "On my way."
  • OP: Original poster or overpowered, usually refers to someone who should be "nerfed."
  • OT: Off-tank or Off-topic.
  • OS: Opening shot. Shotgun skill that buff your group with 30% of extra critical power for 8 seconds. Most often asked to be used in NYR but also used to buff group in a dungeon.

 

  • PM: Private Message.
  • PST: Please send tell (or whisper).
  • Pull: The action of triggering the fight and bringing (pulling) the enemies to you.
  • PvE: Player versus Environment.
  • PvP: Player versus Player.
  • Purge: Sometimes purge is needed to remove a shield from boss (yellow part of health bar) and dps could be asked to bring purge. This means you take a gadget such as Electromagnetic Destabilizer to help remove shield.
  • Pot: In this game Pot refers most often to potion, pure anima-supreme potency. Buffing yourself to do damage. “Term potion up” is often hear in NYR before fight starts.
  • PS: Pain Suppression. Tank skill from hammer.

 

  • QQ: Supposed to look like a pair of crying eyes, usually an insult to someone who is complaining or upset.

 

  • Rofl: Roll on the floor laughing.
  • RP: Role Play.
  • RPG: Role Playing Game. Or rocket propelled grenade

 

  • S&P: Seek and Preserve, Scenario type.
  • Scen: Scenario.
  • SC: Savage coast.
  • SD: Scorched Desert.
  • SF: Shadowy Forest.
  • Sushi: What we make of the Lurker Boss in NYR
  • SWL: Secret World Legends (New version of game)

 

  • Tank: A person assigned to contain and focus the target's wrath upon himself. This assignment is generally reserved for classes with high armor and defense stats, and abilities that increase his survivability against heavy damage.
  • Tell: A private message.
  • TL/DR: Too Long, Didn't Read.
  • Toon: A player's ingame character.
  • TSW: The Secret World (Old version of game.)
  • TS: Thick Skin. Tank skill from Hammer.(No longer in game)
  • TY: Thank you

 

  • UE: Unveil Essence: 

 

  • Vent: Ventrilo, a free, downloadable piece of software used for voice chat.

 

  • WTB: Want To Buy.
  • WTF: What the .. Flip.
  • WTS: Want To Sell.
  • WTT: Want To Trade.
