I have a friend thats going to do the 10day trial.

Is this a key for unlocking the hole game then?

Yeah it should do, its the extra key you receive when upgrading the game.

Just for reference though: Funcom frequently does good package deals for game + expansions for new customers. So if he's long term interested in the game, it might be worth for him to wait for one of those before settling in on a new / final account.
