Well, I was also guilty of bad filth placement at one time, but I don't think that filth placement was the main source of wipes in general yesterday. I don't understand the case for the rocket jump, though, since most often podders or ranged dps get the filth circle and ranged dps really ought to use flame throwers...

Before we switched healing roles, most wipes were largely healing related. While it was quite interesting to see the leeching side of things, we spent the first half an hour wiping to a lack of hps. And I guess after that everyone was a bit too tired to pull it off without mistakes, even after we switched roles.

Well, to be fair, the tanking was not flawless either. The aggro was not balanced, poor judgement on my end resulted in double stacks, which can be hellish to heal through for anyone (you can send me the bill for those wipes), I also managed to turn downfall on some of you (taking a swing at the boss was just too tempting! ) as well as the fact that I am still not entirely used to having a single target builder for grabbing the birds. However, I know that we do have a good and solid team, and this defeat (read tactical retreat) will only make our next victory even sweeter!
As for filth placements, those can be tough, especially if you have issues with your computer or with your connection. It is always an advantage for some ranged DPSes to have a flamethrower, in case of an emergency it can very well save the raid, however, the rocket launcher is not a tool which will fix everything either, the DPS still need to be able to actually aim it at the right spot so that it does not cause too much grief for the podder, and so that everyone can still find cover from the waves (or at the very least be knocked back without landing in filth) it's something that takes practice to get right. As a side note, the biggest advantage of melee DPSing as opposed to ranged DPSing is that you get no filth pools what so ever
I do, however, think it was a good run, and I am under the impression that several of us learnt something, well, I know I did

I will NEVER run a flamethrower unless I'm actually on Adds. I will only ever run rocket jump in the raid. It's how I learned to do it, and it's how I will remain doing it.

Didn't realize you'd not leeched before.Uragon wrote:Before we switched healing roles, most wipes were largely healing related. I think that might not be 100% true, I think I did leech once on the US raid when that was still struggling to get off the ground and I actually happened to be in the US for a week. However that was on my business laptop, which has an Intel i7 for graphics. I'm still surprised that I do actually get about 15fps on it. Suffice it to say that didn't really go that well.
Apart from that, I'm a seasoned leecher for sure. But well... while I can sleepwalk my way through the encounter wielding fists and even fix some tank mistakes like double stacks when I'm in that spec, I definitely still have to learn many of the aspects of leeching the raid.

I think it's really good that people are talking about the raid - as someone who has a slow computer/connection/reactions it's great to see these issues brought up by seasoned professionals (!) and to know that other people have the some of the same problems. Also great to be part of "a good and solid team" - thanks Chaos!

It's more useful in Phase 3 when almost by necessity you're not standing on the grate. Even if you do manage to not filth the circles, Bad filth placement can also make life tough for the podder. Use of the RJ to try and get the filth off to the side or further back helps a bit.Misbeliever wrote:Well, I was also guilty of bad filth placement at one time, but I don't think that filth placement was the main source of wipes in general yesterday. Admittedly it's not perfect cause you will occasionally cop filth on you while RJ's on cool down. I just dont see how running the flame thrower for the extra DPS is all that useful when you're spending more time firing at the boss in Phase 3.

Re: NY Raid Thursday 19 March 2015 19:50 GMT
Because some DPS running FT means people can handle adds if the adds DPS dies. Though, if the ranged circle is filthed, then then everyone dies. And if using Scorched Earth, the FT is more damage in phase 1 as well (Though, less useful for adds in Phase 3).
Personally, I'd never run RJ in the raid because it brings no utility and isn't needed, even for filth, as filth placement is manageable with practice. So it's useless to me.
However, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses in game. I am prone to hitting the wrong abilities if I am in a hurry, whereas I am good at quickly moving and dodging, hence the reason I don't use RJ in that situation, but I understand it is useful for others.

I flat out CANNOT see how it brings no utility.
