The sound of waves gently crashing on the shore reaches and pulls you out of darkness. You slowly open your eyes. You feel cool, damp sand against your cheek. Your whole body aches but it seems no bones are broken, no ligaments torn. You take a few moments to gather you thoughts but you have no memories of how you got here and even where “here” is. There’s no point in inaction. The sound of rushing blood pounds in your ears as you stand up with difficulty.
You survey your surroundings carefully. A veil of semidarkness mantles the area but you can see your immediate vicinity thanks to a ray of moonlight shining through a gap in the clouds. You see a large, dark shape cast upon the shore a few dozen steps from you. It looks like a boat, its contours sharp. There’s a red glow emanating from the vessel repeatedly fading and returning, each cycle accompanied by a high-pitched beep, barely audible in the monotonous song of the waves.
You turn around to see a humanoid shape sprawled not 3 metres from you. The figure dressed in some kind of uniform lies still and you can’t be certain about their condition, especially with the face obscured by a helmet.
You move your gaze to the left to see a shallow ditch starting next to the uniformed man and disappearing into the nearby forest. The tracks imprinted in the sand are not a good sign. It seems that there was somebody else here but they were dragged off by something strong enough to move a body of an adult.
You look up at the sky but the stars are hidden behind the clouds, so you can’t even be sure what hemisphere you’re on. You search your pockets but find nothing. You take a deep breath feeling the pain slowly subsiding. It will take some time but you’re going to be fine. As for now, you are in an unknown place with no memories of how you got here.
