I used the Thane-Jack combo a lot. "The Beauty and the Beast", as I sarcastically called them
My other fav combo was Garrus-Thane. They did "scale" things up

in other news in regards to the co-op:

Humans: can be every class
Turians and Krogans: Soldier or Sentinel
Drells and Asaris: Vanguard or Adept
Quarians and Salarians: Engineer or Infiltrator


Looks like human or drell for Adept for me.

Edit add in: It also seems each race has certain skills other don't. Like a Krogan soldier has a body slam attack that humans and turians don't get
